Ministers have a passion for helping people who need care. Jesus had
deep compassion for those who were like sheep without a shepherd
(Matthew 9:36) – people left reeling from the blow of death, illness or
tragedy, people who thought they were beyond the reach of God’s healing
love. Jesus reached out to them, touched them, healed and helped them. The Stephen Ministry is a national ecumenical program that trains lay people to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those experiencing all kinds of life problems. Stephen Ministers show care and express healing hope through their personal support of others. Stephen Ministry began here at St. Mary’s of the Lake in 1984. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of initial training in important caring ministry skills and concepts and are committed to serve for at least two years. During that time, they also receive continuing education and skill building. Those receiving care can be assured that their identity and the caring relationship will always remain confidential. For more information about becoming a Stephen Minister, or for referral to a caring Stephen Minister, please contact Jim Nail or Kathy Pritchett. (315) 524-2611 |
